ATR 72 Passenger to Cargo Conversion

Empire Aerospace was selected by IPR Conversions, a division of ACIA Aero Group, in 2016 to be a conversion center for their ATR42/72 Bulk Freighter and Large Cargo Door Freighter Supplemental Type Certification. Empire completed its first 3 conversions before the end of 2017 and helped transform the program into a workable STC with a close partnership with IPR Conversions.

To date Empire has completed over 10, passenger to cargo conversions, and is scheduled to complete the first ATR72-600 passenger to cargo conversion before the end of 2024.

The dedicated team performs structural modifications to incorporate a large cargo by removing the existing upper and lower skin sections, door, and door frame; completely rebuilding the door frame, surrounding skin support; and installation of new skins; and a new door.

The interior is replaced with a cargo area with longitudinal supports for net anchors, gill liner support structures and gill liners to add fire protection in the cargo compartment. The process takes 4 to 7 months depending on the modification selected by the customers.
